With age the forehead muscles and overlying skin will relax and stretch, causing the eyebrow to descend. As the eyebrow drops, skin can bunch over the outer upper eyelid. This contributes to a tired-looking, aged appearance. Our Surrey brow lift surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that aims to return the eyebrow to a more youthful create a natural-looking, rejuvenated appearance. The natural position of the eyebrow is slightly different for women and men. For example, women have a slightly more arched eyebrow, where the outer eyebrow sits higher on the upper, outer bony rim surrounding the eye. Both male and female patients can be candidates for an eyebrow lift.
The use of neuromodulators, such as Botox™, has changed how we manage eyebrows. Where indicated, these agents can perform an excellent job in achieving a more youthful forehead appearance and lifting the eyebrow. Many patients seeking a change in their forehead or eyebrow appearance may not require surgery until later in life.
When eyebrow descent does occur, it typically affects the outer thirds more than the central third or more midline aspect. This can also contribute to skin bunching in the upper outer eyelid. As a result, Brow Lift Surgery has evolved to focus more on this outer, lateral eyebrow. In some cases, a lift of the entire eyebrow may be needed. Brow Lift Surgery is often combined with an Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty to revitalize the upper eyelid, as well as Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty when total periorbital rejuvenation is the primary goal.
During your consultation for your brow lift Surrey plastic surgeon, Dr. Imran Ratanshi, will review your specific concerns and tailor a treatment plan that works best for you. A comprehensive assessment of the tissues surrounding your eye and overall face will be performed to help identify the features contributing to your concerns.
Brow Lift Surgery takes 1 to 1.5 hours to perform. Prior to your surgery, Dr. Ratanshi will make markings to help plan the degree of lift required. Brow Lift surgery is a procedure performed under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety. You will be put to sleep by a board-certified Anesthesiologist. Local freezing medication is used to help maintain your comfort. Through the incision, Dr. Ratanshi can remove excess tissue and raise your eyebrow. Your incisions are closed in multiple layers to offload tension and heal with a fine-line scar. Following a Brow Lift surgery, patients can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort which can be managed with pain medication and cold compresses. Most patients are able to resume light activities within one to two weeks, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks. As swelling subsides and the healing process progresses, you will begin to notice the full effects of your Brow Lift Surgery. Over time, incision lines will fade leaving you with a natural-looking result that enhances your overall appearance.
Incisions are typically planned to be hidden in your hairline, or at the junction of your hairline and forehead if your hairline to eyebrow distance is longer. The shape and length of the incision will depend on the amount of excess skin. In some cases, an incision directly overlying the eyebrow may be required to address the concern. Incision planning will be reviewed with you during your consultation.

Eye Brow Lift Surgery is a cosmetic surgery to improve the position and appearance of the eyebrow and outer forehead. It is not a benefit of the British Columbia Medical Services Plan. A direct brow lift with an incision over the eye brow may be indicated under MSP in select patients with severe visual field obstruction from brow and upper eyelid descent. This must be documented by an Ophthalmologist certified by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada.
If management of the eyelids is required, such as with an Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty or Lower Lid Blepharoplasty, additional fees would apply. Dr. Ratanshi will provide you with a detailed quotation during your consultation process.
